Summer courses begin June 17th! Enroll now!
Since 2014, school districts and their teachers have been challenged by a rapid rise in the enrollment of immigrant students who have an interrupted or minimal formal education. How do we teach rigorous academic content to students who have minimal literacy and are just learning how to be students? How do we give our teenaged students the confidence and skills they need to take full advantage of the short time we may have them in school? How do we help them become productive community members?
Our online book study, "Boosting Achievement" by Carol Salva and Anna Matis offers educators a practical guide to understanding and meeting the needs of students with interrupted or minimal formal education. Salva, an ESL teacher, shares her and other teachers' personal stories and successes that not only provide action steps for the classroom, but also motivate educators to never give up on these most vulnerable newcomers. Participants will also have the opportunity to expand their learning by interacting with their online classmates and exploring additional resources.
The online book study is a highly effective professional development tool that offers the freedom and independence of studying at home or work while enjoying the support and contributions of a professional learning community. Participants who complete the book study and submit the final reflection earn a certificate for 15 hours of professional development.*
The course is self paced and you can join at any time! We are looking forward to reading your thoughts in the discussions!
Participants will receive a copy of the book through Amazon.com within days of enrollment.
